Farewell From Our Founder

Goodbye ...

In 1971, Jim Walkup and I had a dream of creating a psychotherapy center in Bronxville, NY. We imagined o place where people of all financial circumstances, and from all backgrounds, could come fo receive quality mental health care — the same high level of care for oll recipients.

Now, 53 years later, I am retiring from The Counseling Center - the dream that became a reality. | want fo thank my many clients for their trust; my colleagues for their wisdom and collaboration; and our board members, donors, and the community at large for supporting our mission and the ongoing good work of the Center.

Our goal has always been fo provide a place where people feel heard, not judged; where they receive empathy and compassion, not cricism; where they feel safe enough to explore their own lives fully and bravely.

As clients heal and grow, if is privlege fo watch them enlarge and expand their lives. We as their therapists feel enlarged and expanded, too — and for that I am profoundly grateful.

I am grateful to all those who have crossed our office thresholds, who have enrusted us with their most intimate truths. And my hope is that each client has leamed, in the process, fo trust themselves.

I am so proud of the work of the Counseling Center, and I feel fortunate to have had a deeply meaningful career here. I will miss it immensely, but I take heart knowing that the mission of fair and equitable access fo mental health are will carry on. And that our incredible therapists will confinue to provide wise, effective, and compassionate support fo those who need it.
